Matteo stopped tapping the cigar against the ashtray.
For several seconds, Arthur heard nothing except the ventilation above the office door.

Arthur pushed his glasses higher.

The accountant swallowed.
“Miss Gallagher established safeguards for certain disputed accounts. If her authority was revoked while unresolved discrepancies remained, some transactions would be suspended and the supporting records referred for independent review.”
