She asked why.
“Evidence,” he replied.
“Evidence of what?”
“Security violation.”
Camille looked toward Voss.
“What law have I violated?”
He stepped closer.
“You’re in a restricted parking area.”
“I’m assigned to this garage.”
“Prove it.”
Camille nodded toward the identification in his hand.
“My employee credentials are valid.”
Voss glanced at the card.
Then slipped it into his pocket.
“Not good enough.”
Luke Brenner stood near the elevator.
His body camera was pointed toward Camille.
She looked directly at it.
“Deputy Brenner, is your camera recording?”
Luke hesitated.
Before he could answer, Voss turned.
“Don’t worry about the camera.”
Camille looked toward the young officer.
“Please preserve the recording.”
Luke shifted uncomfortably.
Then turned slightly toward the wall.
The camera no longer faced the confrontation.
Camille noticed.
She said nothing.
Voss stepped behind her.
“Hands behind your back.”
Camille took a slow breath.
“Am I under arrest?”
“You’re being detained.”
“For what?”
“Interfering with a security investigation.”
She looked toward Mercer.
He was examining her phone.
Then toward Luke.
The young officer avoided her eyes.
Voss pulled her wrists behind her back.
The handcuffs clicked.
One tightened painfully.
Camille winced.
“Deputy, that cuff is too tight.”
Voss smiled.
“Then stop moving.”
“I’m standing still.”
He tightened his grip.
Camille closed her eyes for a moment.
